Alaska factoids: The capital of Alaska is Junea; its largest city is Anchorage. Today’s population in Alaska is approximately 738,700 (averaging around 1 person per square mile). Alaska’s state tree is the ‘Sitka Ppruce’; its state flower is the ‘Forget-Me-Not’; and its state bird the ‘Willow Ptarmigan’. Alaska’s State Motto is: “North to the future”.

1974

  • October 29, Sri Chinmoy delivers a lecture, ‘Belief and Faith’, at 7 p.m. at Alaska Methodist University in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.

1976

  • July 1976. While the relay team of the Liberty Torch runners ran in the lower 48-states, a team member, Sam, visited and ran in Juneau and Anchorage. Sam then climbed Denali (then named Mt. McKinley). Reaching the peak, he sang Sri Chinmoy’s “O My America” song and buried a sealed time capsule containing various special items including a photo of Sri Chinmoy. 1993

  • July 1993. A dedication plaque is mounted at a park at the base of Denali/Mt. McKinley — designating the mountain a Peace monument.
