Hawaii (HI). The 50th state to join the Union in 1959

Hawaii factoids: The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu (on Oahu) — which is also it largest city. Known as the “Aloha State”, today’s total population is approximately 1.45 million (averaging around 227 people per square mile). There are 8 populated ‘main’ islands (the ‘Big Island: Hawaii, as well as Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe) as well as 129 small unpopulated islands. Hawaii’s state tree is the ‘Kukui tree’, candlenut tree; its state flower is the ‘Pua aloalo’, aka native yellow hibiscus; and its state bird the ‘Nēnē’, aka Hawaiian goose. Hawaii’s State Motto is: “Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono” (The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness).

Among the many songs Sri Chinmoy composed on America, his adopted country, this one is perhaps the most powerful:

America, America, America!
Great you are, good you are,
Brave you are, kind you are.
O my America, America.
Your Heaven-freedom is earth’s aspiration-choice.
With you, in you, is God-Hour’s Victory-Voice.
