North Carolina factoids: The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh; its largest city (by pop.) is Charlotte. Today’s population in North Carolina is approximately 11.2 million (averaging around 220 people per square mile). North Carolina’s state tree is the ‘Pine’; its state flower is the ‘Flowering Dogwood’; its state bird the ‘Cardinal’; its state fruit is the ‘Scuppernong Grape’ and its state vegetable is the ‘Sweet Potato’. North Carolina’s State Motto is: “Esse quam videri” (To be, rather than to seem).

- February 20, 1974 (multiple lectures in multiple states on this day). Sri Chinmoy delivers an evening lecture entitled “Success, Failure and Progress” in the Humanities Lecture Hall at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, NC.
1978
January 28, 1978. Sri Chinmoy visits North Carolina. He and his students give musical performances and he offers two lectures:
- ‘Achievement’, at the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, NC
- The following was a Q&A from that lecture: (…) Who is God?
- “Choice” in the Great Hall, Student Centre at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC
- ‘Achievement’, at the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, NC
1980
- October 11-12, 1980. As part of the ‘Salutations to America’ non-stop relay run, the Governor of North Carolina proclaims “Sri Chinmoy Days”.
1982
- 19 July 1982. Lecture on ‘Confidence’ at the University of North Carolina
- As part of his ’50 Oneness-State-Songs’ tour, Sri Chinmoy ran 7-miles ‘solo’ in North Carolina.
1987-current, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run passes through North Carolina bi-annually on its cross-country trek and engages with its welcoming citizens (see example of photos of a previous visit)
