Tennessee (TN). The 16th state to join the Union in 1796

Tennessee factoids: The capital of Tennessee is Nashville — which is also its largest city. Known as the “Volunteer State”, today’s population is approximately 7.3 million (averaging around 171 people per square mile). Tennessee’s state tree is the ‘Tulip Poplar’; it has two state flowers, which are the ‘Purple Passionflower’ and the ‘Iris’; as well as two state birds, which are the ‘Mockingbird’ and the ‘Bobwhite Quail’; and its state fruit is the ‘Tomato’ Tennessee’s State Motto is: “Agriculture and Commerce”.
