Indiana (IN). The 19th state to join the Union in 1816
Indiana factoids: The capital of Indiana is Indianapolis — which is also its largest city. It’s nickname, the Hoosier State, Indiana’s population today is approximately 6.9 million (averaging around 192 people per square mile). Indiana’s state tree is the ‘Tulip Tree’; its state flower is the ‘Peony’; its state bird the ‘Northern Cardinal’; while it does not a listed official state food, it is a large producer of ‘Popcorn’. Indiana’s State Motto is: “Crossroads of America”.

- April 27, 1970. Sri Chinmoy delivers a lecture entitled “Aspiration: The Inner Flame” at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN.
- An intriguing recollection of this lecture and other lectures from this period was recounted by Madhuri in her 1972 book “The Life of Sri Chinmoy, Part 2” (see excerpt here)
- February 13, 1974 (multiple lectures in multiple states on this day). Sri Chinmoy delivers a morning lecture entitled “Success and Progress” in Conf.Rm 1, Halleck Building, at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN.
- After the lecture, Sri Chinmoy answered the following questions:
- September 1997. After the passing of Mother Teresa, several media outlets contacted Sri Chinmoy —who had formed a friendship with the nun — for interviews, one such interview was from Radio WIBC, Indianapolis
1987-current, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run often visits Indiana on its cross-country trek and engages with its welcoming citizens (see example of photos of its previous visit)
