Louisiana (LA). The 18th state to join the Union in 1812
Louisiana factoids: The capital of Louisiana is Baton Rouge; its largest city is New Orleans. Today’s population in Louisiana is approximately 4.6 million (averaging around 107 people per square mile). Louisiana’s state tree is the ‘Bald Cypress’; its state flower is the ‘Magnolia’; its state bird the ‘Brown Pelican’; its state fruit is the ‘Strawberry’ and its state vegetable is the ‘Sweet Potato’. Louisiana’s State Motto is: “Union, Justice and Confidence”.

February 27, 1974 (multiple lectures in multiple states this date). Sri Chinmoy delivers a 9am morning lecture entitled “Compassion” in the Kendall Cram Lecture Hall at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana

June 26, 2007, Sri Chinmoy offered a private Peace Concert at Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, LA. as part of the “Windsor Court Awards of Excellence” ceremony.
- The awards were arranged by Ashish Verma (General Manager of the hotel) who organized the event as “Windsor Court to Present 1st Annual Windsor Awards of Excellence at Special Peace Concert” stating “Internationally Recognized Spiritual Teacher Sri Chinmoy Donating Performance For An Evening of Spiritual Harmony”. The Windsor Court Award of Excellence was offered to two New Orleans’ citizens:
- Angela Hill (WWL TV [CBS] News Anchor); and
- Doug Thornton, who spearheaded the rebuilding and reopening of the Louisiana Superdome following Hurricane Katrina.
1987-current, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run often visits Louisiana on its cross-country trek and engages with its welcoming citizens (see example of photos of a previous visit)
