Nebraska factoids: The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln; its largest city (by pop.) is Omaha. Known as the ‘Cornhusker State’, today’s population is approximately 1.9 million (averaging around 26 people per square mile). Nebraska’s state tree is the ‘Cottonwood’; its state flower is the ‘Goldenrod’; and its state bird the ‘Western Meadowlark’. Nebraska’s State Motto is: “Equality Before the Law”

  • March 5, 1974 (multiple lectures in multiple states on this day). As part of his 50-state lecture tour, Sri Chinmoy delivers his first of four lectures —in 4 states— this day. At 12:30pm he offers the lecture entitled “Do We Love God?” at 12:30 p.m. in the Omaha Milo Bail Student Center at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE.
  • 4 July 1982 the State of Nebraska, by Proclamation, extended Sri Chinmoy an ‘Honoraray Citizenship’ (the 3rd of 17 USA States to do so). In November 1992 Nebraska was the first, of nearly a dozen states, to be declared a “Sri Chinmoy Peace State”. On January 6, 1994 he receives a letter from the governor of Nebraska, E. Benjamin Nelson, again mentioning Nebraska as a Peace State while congratulating Sri Chinmoy on the achievement of drawing his 1-millionth bird drawings.

1987-current, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run often visits Nebraska on its cross-country trek and engages with its welcoming citizens (see example of the 2025 ‘Peace Ride’ photos in Nebraska).
