Virginia (VA). The 10th state to join the Union in 1788
Virginia factoids: The capital of Virginia is Richmond; its largest city is Virginia Beach. Today’s population in Virginia is approximately 8.8 million (averaging around 220 people per square mile). Virginia’s state tree —as well as its state flower — is the ‘American Dogwood’; and its state bird the ‘Northern Cardinal’. Significantly, eight Virginians have served as President of the United States, including four of the first five: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson. Virginia’s State Motto is: “Sic Semper Tyrannis” (Thus Always to Tyrants)” .

1974
- February 6, 1974. Sri Chinmoy delivers a lecture entitled “Spirituality” at Pace Memorial United Methodist Church at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
1976
- January 11, 1976. As the Liberty Torch Non-Stop Relay run nears concluding it’s 8,800 mile run through 50-states, Sri Chinmoy joins the team for a visit to offer a wreath and meditate at the grave of President John F. Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
1978
- January 29, 1978. Sri Chinmoy delivers a lecture, entitled ‘A Seeker’, at the Virginia Beach Convention Centre in Virginia Beach, VA.
1989

October 7, 1989. Sri Chinmoy offers a Peace Concert at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.

While in Charlottesville, they visit the home of Thomas Jefferson Monticello.

1987-current, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run passes through Virginia bi-annually on its cross-country trek and engages with its welcoming citizens (see example of photos of its previous visit)
