An unwavering patriot of both his birthplace and of his adopted country, Sri Chinmoy meditated on, wrote extensively about, and composed hundreds of songs in honor of these lands that he cherished.
Among the many songs Sri Chinmoy composed on America, his adopted country, this one is perhaps the most powerful:
America, America, America!
Great you are, good you are,
Brave you are, kind you are.

In 1975, in anticipation of America’s bicentennial, Sri Chinmoy composed a melody for each of the names of the fifty states in America. This project was just one of many in which Sri Chinmoy paid his tribute to the unique quality each state embodies (see list here of other activities).
Over ten years later, on 13 April 1986, Sri Chinmoy again sang these songs. As he sang each song, he invited his students who had been born in that state to come up and meditate with him.
Fifty oneness-state-songs,
Our Lord’s Compassion-Gongs.
Within, without, a seeker’s sleepless cry
To reveal America’s perfection-sky.
