Songs composed by Sri Chinmoy
Sri Chinmoy is a spiritual teacher with students in six continents. He was born in what is now Bengal, then grew up in an Ashram in India from the ages of 13 until 32, finally moving to New York in 1964 to begin his service to humanity. In his pursuit of offering guidance to his students and to anyone interested in leading more peaceful and spiritual lives, Sri Chinmoy’s spiritual teachings manifested in many creative ways, including
- composing over 21,600 songs, primarily in Bengali language as well as in English
- playing musical instruments
- offering concerts
- writing books
- painting and drawing
- offering talks and lectures
- conducting silent meditations, and
- using sports and athletics to transcend the mind and body
Sri Chinmoy traveled extensively and met with many public figures throughout the world with the hopes to inspire them to embrace their better or higher nature while serving their own audiences or constituents. He also felt a dedication to the goals and aspirations of the United Nations and led meditations there for staff and delegates twice-weekly for over 40 years.
Many, many singing and musical groups formed throughout the past 60 years which focus on Sri Chinmoy’s compositions. Each group adds their own unique interpretation all the while keeping the spiritual intent, simplicity and beauty of Sri Chinmoy’s compositions. This website focuses on two singing groups: Paree’s International Group and the Enthusiasm-Awakeners. These two singing groups span a big diversity — Paree’s International Group performs Sri Chinmoy’s more complex compositions in Bengali and in English at functions and concerts — while the Enthusiasm-Awakeners is a group of individuals who just enjoy learning and singing Sri Chinmoy’s songs composed in English regardless of their singing capacities. Please explore the myriad of other singing groups at radioSriChinmoy.org. There you can also listen to Sri Chinmoy himself singing and performing on musical instruments.
